I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X back in 2001-2002 while in grade 11 for a project in American History class. Fast forward almost 20 years later, and here I am a father, husband, son, brother, friend, neighbor and physician continually reflecting on how he inspired me. Although I can relate to Malcolm as a Muslim, he signified more broadly what it meant to think and how a more critical understanding of the world would make us progress as humans.
I recently started an activity inspired by Malcolm X called "Read Together. Think Together. Do Together" for parent-child pairs to partake in. Children and parents work together to think about the content they are reading and ask questions that everyone has an opportunity to answer and further reflect about.
Over the years, I have read and been inspired by many but it was reading Malcolm X that planted the seed. This site is for us to share how he continues to inspires us and how we can use that inspiration to do better for our world. Share away.
